I am using an APC 650 UPS. I think a UPS needs a USB to LAN cable for being able to do this. I first set the UPS setting using it's software which came with it in a CD to keep my PC on until there is 5mins or lesser amount of battery left during a power outage. I also changed a setting in my BIOS under Power Settings called "Recover on AC power loss". This is by default off. I turned it on. Now when there is no power my UPS hibernates my PC and turns it back on when power is back.
