Brands

I remember my brother-in-law once telling me that 99% of all economic activities on earth are female-oriented. Well, it is not surprising since according to evolution, the female sex of the human race is to be chased down by the male sex. The fairer sex chooses her partner. The entire existence is reproduction oriented and since females form a more important part of reproduction all activities are female oriented.
Same can be said about brands. One might argue that brands are all about quality, stability etc. But brands serve the sole purpose of attracting the opposite sex. In males, usage of an expensive brand denotes possession of lot of money which means he can provide sufficiently to the opposite sex. In females, brands serve a similar purpose except that they are used as a means to compete against other female counterparts in attracting more males.
Competition has no limits and as a result brands have acquired values that are ridiculously high. Gucci, Versace, Taugheur etc. are some of the brands whose value has got nothing to do with quality, stability etc. beyond a certain price. After a certain point, the money adds no value to the product except for the addition to the magnitude of superiority in the race for impressing the opposite sex.
