While trying to get started with mining bitcoins on my desktop recently I came across some difficulties. I recommend referring to the Get Started section on the Bitclockers pool website. I followed their instructions and they worked like a charm except for a small issue with OpenCL. I have an ATI Radeon 6850 card. I used the phoenix miner on my Windows 7 64 bit system. When I typed the command for mining in command prompt I got the following message:
This OpenCL build requires version 1.4.879, version 1.4.838 installed
I googled a lot but found no solution although I did find lot of people with a similar problems but with a different OpenCL version installed e.g. version 1.4.815.
Well, the solution turned out to be extremely simple. Apparently my graphic card drivers were old. So I went to my Device Manager->Display Adapter->ATI Radeon 6800 series-> Update driver software.
That solved the problem. I am able to mine bitcoins using my GPU at about 200Mhashes/Sec!!
