CAT 2010

The Indore shortlist for GD PI was just released. Indore was my last choice. I was not shortlisted for Indore either. Once again because, although I scored 99.38 percentile in the CAT, my previous academic scores are not high enough. Previous academics include my marks in SC(10th standard), HSC(12th standard) and Bachelors Degree.
I find myself asking repeatedly how can something I did 7 or 5 years ago be playing such an important role in deciding my present and future. And by future, it is not just the next couple of years of my life but a good one or two decades into the future.
More than that, I find myself asking HOW is what was taught 7/5 years ago in school relevant to what I might be learning during a degree which grants me advanced knowledge on business, finance, marketing etc. But then, may be the questions asked in CAT too are not that relevant because they too, after all, are based on what was taught earlier in school. So it is not enough that I qualify through CAT because the same things are being taken into consideration again (redundancy) using a metric (marks) obtained in a test (school exams) whose relevancy to doing an MBA is questionable.
Another question which continues to haunt me is how can the weightage to job experience be LEAST while all over the world that aspect is given weightage equal to or more than the weightage given to the marks obtained in the entrance test e.g. GMAT rather than in High School etc.
I have always hated situations where my efforts do not make a difference in the result. The worst crisis that I have faced in my life are because, despite my continual increasing efforts, the results remain unaffected.
In the aftermath of this debacle, I am baffled as to what course of action I must resort to. Surely, I am going to explore other avenues apart from MBA with vigour I have not possessed in the past. Until I find an alternative, MBA remains the most lucrative, rational, popular option like the dangling carrot.
