Former Indian president Dr. Kalam writes in his book Ignited Minds that poverty is the main problem faced by India (he mentions in the book, that it was pointed out by a schoolgirl on his routine school visits).
My first reaction was scratching my head, for we all know that population is the root cause of all our problems. It is excessive population that is causing povery, pollution etc. All these problems form a vicious circle, especially in the developing nations. But upon careful thought I realised that the ex-president is in fact right. If a nation is devoid of poverty but overpopulated then the nation's subject are no longer a burden or a liability. They become an asset. If a person has the luck of having a decent upbringing there is more chance that after growing up, this person will contribute positively towards the betterment of humankind. This chance, however, diminishes if the upbringing is not as good. Money is a resource that can be used by one and all in order to have a positive impact one's surrounding since money will allow one to be educated properly.
Pursuing and gaining knowledge if you have money is definitely easier. And a nation with all its individuals empowered with knowledge and education is bound to do well in all spheres compared to one with the same population immersed in poverty.
