My 5800 screen was faulty like numerous other 5800 phones and hence was giving a distorted display. I used it like this for almost a year. Finally, after looking for a pattern as to what causes the problem I have stumbled upon, probably, a solution.
According to what I have observed the problem might be caused due to condensation of water vapour inside the phone. I arrived at this conclusion due to the following facts:
1. Last month I shifted to a new city which has a much higher average temperature(about 38 degrees Celsius) than the last one that I was living in. Furthermore, the air here is extremely dry with a relative humidity around 15-35% which was around a whopping 90% in the previous city.
2. There are numerous instances in the past when I noticed that the screen worked fine during the day(when the temperature was higher) and distorted at night!
3. After moving to this new city, I once kept my phone in an air conditioned room for almost 12 hours directly exposed to the air coming out of the AC. The display was distorted, suddenly, nowhere out of the blue!
The city that I am living in right now has a temperature ranging from 30-48 degrees Celsius and relative humidity between 10%-35%. I think humidity is the main culprit here so the phone still might work in lower temperatures provided the air is very dry.
I am not sure if my theory is true...but for now it appears to hold.
