After spending long hours searching the internet for a working crack for Assassin's Creed 2, I found it in the least expected place - YOUTUBE!! Its link was given in one of the comments to a video. Here is the link to the download:

However, know that the download consists of two files: first file is a dll file that you need to copy into /Ubisoft/Ubisoft Game Launcher folder (wherever you installed it. C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher by default). The second file is a skidrow.exe file which contains a virus. So when you extract please make sure that the exe file is not extracted no matter what.
This patch will allow you to play the game without an internet connection or a serial.
If you like the game please buy it because if you do then that helps in the production of more games...like Assassin's Creed 3 :)
