RANDOM RAMBLINGS [ran-duhm ram-blings] n. 1 straying from one subject to another in a random, haphazard and aimless manner. 2 the most random blog on the internet.

Sharing an internet connection between 2 PC's with a datacard.

If you are using a datacard and wish to share it over 2 pc's then the conventional process of internet connection sharing will not work. This is because when the datacard is connected to the internet the option for sharing the internet is simply not available. Windows does not treat it as another LAN connection. I use the MTS Mblaze datacard or USB modem as some call it.

The easiest solution that I found to this problem is downloading a software called "AnalogX Proxy". Simply install it and run it. Its "Readme" is a big help. Anyways, just connect the two PC's over wired or wireless LAN. Then manually set the IP address by open status->properties->IPv4. Set it to something like 192.168.0.1 for the PC using the datacard and 192.168.0.2 for the other PC. Run AnalogX Proxy on the PC using the datacard.
Now go to your browser (Always prefer Mozilla Firefox since this approach sometimes does not seem to work for IE and Chrome especially in Vista)
for firefox:
Tools->Options->Advanced->Settings - Select Manual proxy settings and enter the IP address of the PC using the datacard which in our case is 192.168.0.1 and port number as 6588 (as specified in Proxy manual).

for IE:
Tools->Options->Connections->LAN Settings - Select Manual proxy settings and enter the IP address of the PC using the datacard which in our case is 192.168.0.1 and port number as 6588 (as specified in Proxy manual).

This should do. However, there is a large drawback. For example, some sites stop working. In my case I am unable to log in to any Travian server and sometimes Gmail does not log me in especially in Chrome( this problem is sometimes solved by clearing cookies and cache). Furthermore, windows will still treat the PC 192.168.0.2 as "Not connected to the internet". So You will not be able to access windows updates, Garena, Heroes of Newerth and similar applications which do not use a browser for internet access.
There is a potential way to still share the internet fully using the IP address field called "Default Gateway". Logically it should work with the IP as 192.168.0.1 in our case i.e. the IP of the PC with the datacard. But Windows and logic never come in the same sentence so it is not working for me.
PS:- The post assumes you have Vista or Windows 7. XP follows a somewhat similar pattern.

[Edit]
Sometimes the PC without the datacard might experience unresponsive internet connection. It has happened to me many a times when the internet suddenly stops working. To solve this just change the IP address of the PC experiencing problem.

[Edit]
Sometimes you cannot post comments, chat etc. on facebook if you are accessing internet through the proxy.

any way to share data card internet connection with Symbian OS on a mobile?

Datacard can be shared on Symbian s60+ phones in a similar manner as stated above.
All you need to do is to give the address of the proxy in the WLAN connection in your phone as the IP address of your PC.

You most probably need to enter the proxy details in your online trading software also. I am not sure if it supports this feature until I know what software you are using. But try searching for it in Options or Tools or Preferences or something similar.
